With the Namibian government’s grant of a mining licence to the mining firm Uraminis in 2008, Namibia is set to open its biggest uranium mine at Trekkopje. Managing Director of Uraminis said that the firm expects to export its first yellow cake at the end of 2009 through Walvis Bay. The company expects to produce 8.5 million pounds of uranium oxide per year, making it Namibia’s biggest uranium mine. Export markets for the uranium oxide are however yet to be confirmed.
