Ofgem has recently announced that it has a shortlist of four bidders competing to own and run transmission links to the Gwynt y Môr, Lincs and London Array (phase 1) wind farms. The bidders are: a Balfour Beatty Equitix consortium; Blue Transmission (a consortium of Macquarie Capital Group, Barclays Infrastructure Funds Management and Mitsubishi); National Grid Offshore; and a Transmission Capital Partners consortium. The preferred bidders for the Lincs and London Array (phase 1) projects will be announced this autumn, whilst the preferred bidder for Gwynt y Môr will be selected at a later date because construction is not as far advanced. Tenders for a further three projects, Humber Gateway, West of Duddon Sands and Race Bank, are expected to start next spring. In total these six projects represent around £2bn of offshore transmission links connecting some 2.8GW of offshore wind.
