The Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform has launched a consultation seeking views on measures it can take to assist businesses in implementing the proposed extension in the flexible working rights to parents of children, aged 16 and under. Consultation closes on 18 November 2008.

Whilst the Government announced its intention to introduce the changes in April 2009, it has been widely reported in the press that this may be delayed. Lord Mandelson, the Secretary of State for Business, has since commented that no firm decision to delay the introduction of the new law has been taken, although this remains to be under consideration as part of the Government's proposals to take steps to deal with the current financial climate.
