In 2006, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) ordered that all elevator sheave jammers manufactured or installed by ThyssenKrupp be replaced. Many Condominium Corporations were affected by this order and had to pay for the replacement of the sheave jammers.
As a result of the recent settlement of a class action lawsuit relating to these sheave jammers, Condominium Corporations may be eligible for a portion of the settlement funds if:
- The sheave jammers were manufactured or installed by ThyssenKrupp;
- The replacement was carried out as a result of the July, 2006 Director’s Safety Order 207/06 issued by TSSA;
- The cost of the replacement was paid by the Corporation; and
- The Corporation did not opt out of the class action on or before May 31, 2012.
Claims must be filed on or before 5:00 p.m. March 29, 2013 elevatorclaim.ca.
