This Ontario bill proposes changes to the complaint process set out in the Employment Standards Act, 2000. Amongst the amendments are that an employee would be required to first confront an employer regarding its (alleged) contravention of the ESA before the Ministry of Labour will assign an officer to investigate. The amendments also give an employment standards officer the power to negotiate a settlement. The bill was passed on October 21, 2010, however it is not yet publicly available.
