A pandemic training company has advised businesses to encourage staff to avoid contact during meetings to prevent the potentially costly impact of swine flu. With fears that the virus will peak in September, and cost British industries up to £1.5bn a day as it spreads, businesses are being advised to take the following steps:
- Avoid shaking hands and kissing on the cheek;
- Take steps such as setting up home working for employees;
- Maintain two metre distances between staff; and
- Wipe phones and door handles.
According to an article in the Times, the way forward is to follow Kylie Minogue and Jean Paul Gaultier’s lead and simply ‘air-kiss’, thus avoiding the potential spread of bugs! According to the article this beats a firm handshake whereby viruses can easily be passed on. We’re not sure whether this practice is going to catch on in workplaces across the country!
