On 10 December 2008 the FR published a report, following its review of the intermediary market which we referred to in last month's Tracker, by the joint FR and industry working group. Background research for the report explored consumer understanding and awareness of descriptive terms for intermediaries, services provided by intermediaries and dynamics between the intermediary, consumer and product producer. The FR's aim in conducting this research and compiling this report was twofold, namely to examine the categorisation of insurance and mortgage intermediaries and to improve transparency for consumers in the intermediary process. This detailed and informative report is available at www.financialregulator.ie/ and a significant number of the recommendations in the report are due to be implemented as part of a review of the Consumer Protection Code in 2009
