ISDA, FOA, APCIMS and the Association for Financial Markets in Europe have written to the Commission with their thoughts on the MiFID Review. They stress the importance of remembering the priorities of MiFID and the money firms have already spent complying with it. The paper says MiFID has generally been a success and the EU must not lose sight of this. The associations note some areas on which the review should focus, such as lack of national implementation and market and trading issues, such as best execution and areas that are affected by issues not covered by MiFID like clearing. There are also matters the review should look at but consider carefully before making any legislation, mainly on certain trading strategies and whether client categorisation protects clients properly.
