New E-Verify Enhancement. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is coming out with its own naughty-or-nice list this season. They recently announced a new enhance ment to E-Verify that will help combat identity fraud by identifying the fraudulent use of Social Security numbers. When an employer now enters a Social Security number into E-Verify, the enhanced E-Verify system will use a combination of algorithms, detection reports, and analysis to identify patterns of fraud. E-Verify will lock Social Security numbers that appear stolen, borrowed, or otherwise invalid. An employee who attempts to use a locked Social Security number will have an opportunity to contest the  Social Security Administration's initial finding. Employees who prove their Social Security numbers are valid may find themselves back on the government's nice list.
