Since 6 April 2017, sponsors of Tier 2 General or Intra-company Transfer migrants have been required to pay an Immigration Skills Charge (ISC) of £1,000 per worker per year (or a reduced rate of £364 for small or charitable organisations). The charge is paid by the employer when they assign a Certificate of Sponsorship to the migrant worker. However, there are certain exemptions, including for migrants switching from a Tier 4 Student visa and for those who were already in the UK with a Tier 2 visa prior to 6 April 2017.

To help employers establish in advance whether they are liable to pay the ISC, the Home Office has created an ISC calculator.
