On 8 April Ofwat proposed a fine on Severn Trent Water of £38.5 m (3% of its turnover) for deliberately providing false information to the regulator and delivering a poor service to customers.

On 17 April, Ofwat fined Thames Water £9.7 million, being 0.7% of its turnover (down from £12.5m) in respect of two matters, misreporting information and delivering poor service to customers.

CCW in its response argues that such penalties should not be levied by way of a fine going to the Treasury but should be re-directed so that the relevant company’s customers benefit.
