Now that the Children and Families Act 2014 has received Royal Assent, the Government has published plans for implementing the new rights it will confer on employees.

The timetable is as follows:

  • 30 June 2014: the right to request flexible working arrangements will be extended to all employees with at least six months’ continuous service. At the same time the procedural requirements will be relaxed.
  • 1 October 2014: fathers and partners of mothers will be given the right to take unpaid leave for two ante-natal appointments.
  • 5 April 2015: parents with babies due from this date onwards will be able to take advantage of the new rights to shared parental leave and pay. Similar rights will apply to adoptive parents.
