In reaction to reports that President Obama intends to bypass Congress to get things done if Congress is gridlocked, House Speaker John Boehner said that Congress would act if the President’s executive orders did not comply with the Constitution.  Boehner said that the House Republicans "will continue to look closely at whether the president is faithfully executing laws, as he took an oath to do.”  Boehner added, “We’re going to watch very closely, because there’s a Constitution that we all take an oath to, including him, and following the Constitution is the basis for House Republicans.”  Boehner also said, “There are options that are available to us.”

The President will give his annual State of the Union address tonight.  A White House adviser said yesterday that “President Obama has a pen and he has a phone, and he will use them to take executive action and enlist every American — business owners and workers, mayors and state legislators, young people, veterans, and folks in communities from across the country — in the project to restore opportunity for all.”
