At the end of 2008 the Polish Parliament changed the Polish Labour Code, the amendments entered into force in January and February 2009. The major changes refer to maternity and parental leave and leave for adoption. The aim of this was to implement relevant EU laws guaranteeing equal right and treatment, inter alia Council Directive 2000/43/EC and Council Directive 2000/78/EC.
