A meeting of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Market Risk Advisory Committee was held on June 12 that addressed climate-related financial market risks. According to MRAC’s chairman, Commissioner Rostin Behnam, “[t]he impacts of climate change affect every aspect of the American economy… Failing to address financial market risks associated with climate change will impede economic growth.” The MRAC meeting was designed, said Mr. Behnam, to be an “important first step” in reviewing climate-related financial market risk. The next step is to form a subcommittee of experts to further consider this issue.
