The European Commission has issued a press release in which Charlie McCreevy (Internal Market and Services Commissioner) urges Member States to make the implementation of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) a priority. Member States have until 1 November 2007 to implement MiFID.

Commissioner McCreevy stated:

"I urge Member States to keep to the timetable that they themselves have agreed. Further delays could well expose Europe's firms and banks to serious competitive disadvantage."
