The National Local Authority Enforcement Code is aiming to focus local authority inspections on workplaces which involve the most serious risks or where there has been evidence of poor performance. The Code was developed following the report produced by Professor Löfstedt which included a recommendation that the HSE has a stronger role in enforcing local authority regulation and enforcement activity. A consultation document issued by the HSE for those involved in local authority health and safety regulation on the draft Code, recently closed and we will give details of the results when they are provided in future updates.
