In a novel twist, as reported by the Victoria Advocate, some municipalities in Texas are supporting a new bill that would shift regulatory responsibility of ridesharing companies from the many localities to the state.

HB 100 proposes to establish one set of ridesharing regulations, rather than a patchwork quilt of varied regulations throughout Texas. This type of regulatory approach often creates a framework to allow faster deployment of new technologies that may benefit both the providers and consumers; but these efficiencies must be balanced with the need to ensure appropriate controls and safety measures.
