Galileo is the satellite navigation system currently being built by the European Union and the European Space Agency. It will offer a number of services, one of which will be the Public Regulated Service (PRS). PRS will be restricted to government-authorised users. The government must intervene by creating a Competent PRS Authority (CPA) to authorise and monitor the use and manufacture of PRS technology. Without setting up a CPA the UK may not access PRS, nor may UK manufacturers make PRS technology according to the provisions of Decision 1104/2011/EU. The consultation runs from 12 October 2012 until 25 January 2013.
