From Monday 22 November 2010, those applying for visas born to British mothers prior to 1983 will not be required to pay a registration fee. Individuals who are applying in the UK, however, will still have to pay an administrative fee of £80 which will be forwarded to the local authority to cover the cost of a citizenship ceremony. The administrative fee must be paid when the application is made but it will be refunded if the application is not successful. For individuals applying overseas, it will be necessary to pay a consular fee.
