From 1 July 2014 employers must register their employees in the electronic database of the Estonian Tax and Customs board from the employee’s first working day. The Tax and Customs board will aggregate personal data of employees into a database linked to the population register which is accessible by the Tax and Customs Board, the Police and Border Guard Board, the Health Insurance Fund, the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund, and the Labour Inspectorate. The new system also enables employees to check whether they are working legally.
Under the law currently in force, employees must be registered with the sickness fund for the seventh working day via an online database of the commercial register. Exact instructions are available on the home page of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board.
