A carbon sequestration project is set to begin near Shell Canada’s Scotford facility in Alberta. The three year project will see three test wells drilled for long term sequestration and will cost about $20 million. The Alberta Energy Research Institute (AERI) and the government of Alberta will fund $6.6 million of the project. The tests will look at the CO2 injection capability and the storage capacity of the formations and are expected to last until June 2010.
