Many years ago, an international filing meant filing IP rights before the local industrial property registry of each country. The current situation has come a long way from that concept; rights holders can file and claim priority to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Madrid Protocol and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in various countries, including the Caribbean and Central American region.
