The Sentencing Council is consulting on guidance for sentencing certain financial crimes, including fraud, bribery and money laundering. The proposed guidance focuses on assessment of culpability and harm factors. It then sets out the range of potential custodial sentences based on these factors and other aggravating factors. It contains a separate section on treatment of corporate offenders, proposing a "harm figure multiplier" to be used together with the culpability factor. The consultation is unrelated to the introduction of deferred prosecution agreements. Consultation closes on 4 October. (Source: Sentencing Council Consults on Financial Crime Guidance)
