The CBP has announced expansion of its international trusted traveler pilot program known as "Global Entry." The program began in June 2008 and has provided for expedited U.S. entry for pre-approved, low-risk travelers. The program was initially implemented in just three major U.S. airports, but was subsequently expanded to include seven international airports. At program inception, only U.S. citizens, nationals, and lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders) were eligible to participate. At this time, the program is being expanded to include citizens of other countries that operate comparable programs, and the most recent development adds thirteen (13) airports as Global Entry participants.
