On 6 November, the MoJ launched a consultation looking for views on applications for authorisation and annual fees for the year 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014, as well as a fees framework for complaints handling by the Legal Ombudsman. The fees, as always, are set in advance of the year in which they will apply and are based on the number of CMCs applying for authorisation in that year. As a result of numerous changes in the market due to the Jackson reforms, the MoJ is consulting on an appropriate level for these fees. The consultation also focuses on the issue of complaints (estimated cost and management), in anticipation of the Legal Ombudsman taking on complaints about CMCs from consumers from next year. The consultation closes on 18 December 2012.
