The Charity Commission has published a Trustees Handbook, which provides information for the trustees of charities. The Charity Commission says that the handbook aims to help charities ensure a smooth handover between departing and newly appointed trustees and to inform new trustees about their duties and responsibilities towards their charities and explain how to make use of the Charity Commission’s online services and guidance. The handbook includes a checklist of documents and information that new trustees should either receive from their charity or find for themselves on the Charity Commission’s website.
The Charity Commission, together with the school governor recruitment charity SGOSS and the Department for Education, has produced guidance for governors of academies, foundation and voluntary schools. The guide, Introduction to charity law for governors of academies, foundation and voluntary schools, summarises the responsibilities of governors and explains where they can find further information.
Both pieces of guidance can be accessed at the Charity Commission’s website at: http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/index.aspx
