Just Not Worth It
On June 5th, the SEC’s Division of Economic Risk and Analysis, as required by the Dodd-Frank Act, published its study on the feasibility, benefits, and costs of a real-time short position reporting regime to the public, or only to FINRA and the Commission, and the feasibility, benefits, and costs of adding new, short sale-related marks to the Consolidated Tape in a voluntary pilot program. The Division of Economic Risk and Analysis concluded that none of these alternatives is likely to be cost-effective
On June 3rd, the SEC announced a whistleblower award of more than $875,000 to be split evenly between two individuals who provided tips and assistance to help the agency bring an enforcement action. SEC Press Release.

Division of Economic and Risk Analysis White Paper
On May 30th, the SEC published a white pape introducing a computing tool aimed at helping individuals better assess the risk and return characteristics of their investments. The paper includes a demo version of this calculator for the federal government’s Thrift Savings Plan.
