The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), an independent supervisory authority devoted to protecting personal data, has published its 2014 annual report.
A core part of the EDPS's work was the supervision of enforcement activities over the processing of personal data by over 60 European institutions and agencies. The EDPS worked with the EC, EP and the Council during the negotiations for the new Data Protection Regulation.
The EDPS has also set three objectives for 2015:
- Data Protection "goes digital" – accountability in handling personal information;
- Forge global partnerships – a social consensus on principles; and
- Opening a new chapter for EU data protection – reforming the EU data protection rules.
