ADB has agreed to pay $1.3 million towards the development of CCS technology, with the Chinese government providing a further $30 million to the scheme. ADB senior energy specialist, Ashok Bhargava, has pointed to the need for coal-based developing economies such as India and China to use the new technology if the full potential of the new technology is to be achieved. China's first CCS demonstration project is currently being built in Tianjin at a cost of $1 billion.
