Following an inquiry into the regulation of the Domestic Transmission Capacity Service (DTCS), the ACCC has decided to maintain regulation of transmission services until 31 March 2019. The ACCC also decided to vary the service description for the DTCS. The DTCS is a high capacity wholesale transmission service. The ACCC's view is that it is important to maintain regulation where there is insufficient competition to ensure access to the declared DTCS at regulated rates. The inquiry found that an additional 112 metropolitan Exchange Serving Areas (ESAs) and 8 regional routes are sufficiently competitive and should be removed from regulation.
