Contracts have been awarded for the construction of a new whisky-powered bioenergy plant. The Rothes Project, due for completion in 2013, is a joint venture between Helius Energy and the Combination of Rothes Distilleries. The plant will burn the waste matter from the whisky distilling process to generate enough electricity to supply 9,000 homes. All waste products will be locally sourced within a radius of 25 miles of the plant.
