On June 25, 2009, the Senate confirmed Julius Genachowski to serve as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Robert McDowell for another term as Commissioner. Mr. Genachowski was sworn in and began work on June 29.
Also on June 25, President Obama nominated Meredith Attwell Baker for the final seat on the Commission. Ms. Baker is a former National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) official. The hearings for Baker and Mignon Clyburn, nominated by President Obama on April 29, were held on July 15. Media related questioning was limited and focused mainly on media ownership. Once confirmed and sworn in, the five-member Commission will be complete.
