Spanish Data Protection Agency Annual Report – 2015 The Spanish Data Protection Agency ("SDPA") recently published its 2015 Annual Report (Report) detailing the main activities performed in the past year, identifying the most relevant decisions passed and analyzing the Strategic Plan for the next 4 years. The SDPA highlighted the increase in the number of complaints resolved by the Agency and the lower income collected during this term. The lower revenue generation is attributable to the increase in the issuances of warning decisions as opposed to imposition of fines on erring companies. According to the Agency, the most penalized sectors came from telecommunications, financial Institutions and water and energy supply. The Report also described the main points of the SDPA's Strategic Plan 2015-2019, including its intention to work with companies to improve their data protection policies and provide assistance to citizens in the exercise of their rights of access, cancelation, opposition and rectification. The SDPA has already started working on these measures, by (i) conducting meetings with the most affected sectors to address deficiencies and audit the implementation of solutions, (ii) updating of the sectorial plan of data control in telephone hiring, (iii) creating a guide for the submission of complaints and claims in the telecommunications field, (iv) collaborating with administrative and social organizations aimed at the protection of consumers and users, and (v) creating practical sheets for citizens.
