The Surface Transportation Board (STB) has rescheduled its public listening session regarding CSX Transportation, Inc.’s (CSXT) troubled rail service during the past several months. The session will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at STB headquarters in Washington, D.C. The informal hearing, originally scheduled for September 12, 2017, was postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Irma, which impacted CSXT’s home state of Florida.
Beginning in the second quarter of 2017, many CSXT customers have experienced poor rail service and supply chain disruptions as a result of operational changes instituted by the railroad’s new CEO, Hunter Harrison. The STB has directed CSXT executives to appear at the public listening session to “discuss their ongoing and future efforts to improve service and to provide an estimated timeline for recovery of normal service levels.” Impacted shippers are also invited to appear at the listening session to describe their rail service concerns and address CSXT’s efforts to improve rail service.
Notices of intent to participate in the listening session are due September 29, 2017. If a notice of intent was previously filed for the September 12 listening session, a new one is not required. However, parties may amend or withdraw their previously filed notices of intent by September 29 if necessary.
