National Mediation Board (NMB) General Counsel Mary Johnson ruled that 2,700 United Airlines in-flight catering workers may move forward with a union representation vote. In January 2018, UNITE HERE filed a petition to represent workers who prepare and transport food for flights. United Airlines responded with a complaint alleging fraud and misrepresentation by the union before the petition was filed. The NMB delayed the election in order to investigate the allegations. The NMB General Counsel determined that there was no evidence proving that the employees did not understand that UNITE HERE was a union and not a representative of the company, finding that the employees will be provided an opportunity to vote in a union election.
