On October 18, 2012, the Seoul High Court reversed a trial court's decision, by ruling that NHN, the largest online service provider ("OSP") operating the largest internet portal in Korea, is liable for damages to its service user for the violoation of its obligation to protect user's personal data providing the user's certain communications data (which are considered his personal data) to the police at the police's request (Seoul High Court 2011na19012, the "Court Decision").
