On February 14th, 2018, Law number 7 which adopts measures that prevents, prohibits and penalizes discriminatory practices went into effect. It aims to guarantee the human rights, dignity, respect and well-being of every man and woman of any age.
It defines the concepts of pestering, sexual harassment, racism and sexism applicable in both private and public sectors.
The law also considers justifiable reasons for termination of employment, proven conduct that violates this Law without possibility of any form of compensation or claims.
As a result of this new law, employers must adopt and disseminate policies to all employees so that they may be aware of this issue. These amendments must be incorporated into internal work policies no later than May 15th 2018.
Violation of this law carries a fine of US $550.00 to $1000.00.
