State Senator Shannon Jones won the right to face Democrat Sam Pettinichi in the contest for the 7th District Ohio Senate seat. Jones defeated the Tea Party-endorsed candidate, former State Representative Michelle Schneider, in a contentious primary race with 61% of the vote. Cincinnati Tea Party founder Mike Wilson fared better in his contest in the Republican primary for the 28th Ohio House District seat, prevailing over three other candidates.
All 12 members of Ohio's Congressional Delegation who faced a primary challenge won. A recount looks imminent in the Republican primary for the 18th Congressional District seat. As of Wednesday afternoon, State Senator Bob Gibbs leads the race with less than 150 votes over former state agriculture director Fred Dailey and six other candidates. Former Congressman and convict Jim Traficant recently decided to run as an Independent in Ohio's 17th Congressional District, where he'll face Democratic incumbent Tim Ryan, Republican Jim Renacci and Green Party candidate Elaine Mastromatteo.
