Grappling with a self imposed Memorial Day deadline and with Democratic members of his own committee having taken widely divergent positions on key provisions, Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman brought yetto- be-mollified members to a sit down at the White House. The result, no clear consensus on a path forward but a pledge to work together. Meanwhile, the minority party held an "Energy Summit" and introduced a working group, the American Energy Solutions Group, to counter the proposed legislation and laying the ground work for the pitched policy battle that lays ahead. Latest intelligence is that the committee will meet on Thursday, May 14th and begin with opening statements. Staff would negotiate amendments over the weekend with the actual marking up to take place the week of May 18th.
