CPR 6.40(3)(c) allows proceedings to be served abroad "by any … method permitted by the law of the country in which it is to be served". The court rejected the argument that service abroad is good service as long as it is not contrary to the law of the country where the claim form is to be served (in this case Peru). In appropriate circumstances, a claimant can obtain an order for alternative service out of the jurisdiction (Amalgamated Metal Trading Ltd v Baron).
