The FSA has published Consumer Research Paper 68 entitled Evidence of impact: An overview of financial education evaluations.

The FSA commissioned Adele Atkinson of the Personal Finance Research Centre, University of Bristol to review past evaluations of the effectiveness of financial capability initiatives and financial education more broadly, both in the UK and other countries.

The report summarises the impact of financial capability interventions on consumers’ knowledge, attitudes and behaviour, taking into account the limitations of the evaluation methods used.

The report also summarises the outcomes of various initiatives under the National Strategy for Financial Capability and considers the impact of various delivery methods, including workshops and seminars. The report concludes with a detailed discussion of the factors that would, ideally, be present in an evaluation of initiatives designed to improve levels of financial capability.
