On 27 March, 2009, the Financial Regulator published its report on "Financial Capability in Ireland: An Overview". This report on the first major study of the financial capability of consumers in Ireland and is the largest-ever research project commissioned by the Financial Regulator.

Financial capability scores were calculated for respondents under four key areas:

  • Managing money (making ends meet and keeping track);
  • Planning ahead;
  • Choosing financial products; and
  • Staying informed.
