The European Commission has sent a letter to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) which comments on the SEC's proposed new rules that would help non-US companies listed on US capital markets to deregister from those markets at a time of their choosing, once certain criteria have been fulfilled. In particular, the Commission has asked for an increase in the trading volume threshold, which is currently proposed at 5%. The Commission has also asked the SEC to use the worldwide trading volume instead of the primary market trading volume which would take into account all markets where the security is traded.
