On 10 July 2014, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) announced that it has written to the FCA to propose a customer-friendly initiative for motor and home insurance. The ABI recommend that a new minimum standard of information be provided to all customers when renewing motor and home insurance. The ABI has published a set of customer Q&A on its proposal. Key aspects of the proposal include that (a) renewal documents should state the premium that the customer started the year paying alongside the renewal quote for easy comparison, and (b) policy documents for new customers should state that any introductory discounts for new customer might not apply on renewal of the policy. The Q&A uses data from a survey conducted by the ABI in May of this year in support of the proposals.
