The Council and the Parliament struck a deal in mid-December on new rules to provide better information to consumers so as to allow better pricing comparisons online. The new rules are designed to address long term complaints by consumers that the pricing of delivery services was not transparent and that costs were higher than they needed to be. This cost inflation is particularly evident in deliveries between Member States where the national authorities don’t have the same supervisory capacities. Online sellers will have to give delivery costs and different options for delivery. The new rules should come into effect in the course of 2018.
