The EU has amended Council Regulation (EC) No. 2580/2001, which imposes financial sanctions with the view to combating terrorism. Sofiane Yacine Fahas has been removed from the list of designees but the designations of 10 persons and 25 entities deemed to have been involved in terrorist attacks have been renewed. Fahas was originally listed on suspicion of involvement with Al- Takfir and Al-Hijra, the Algerian dissident groups. The decision to delist Fahas was taken as part of the Council’s regular review to ensure that there are grounds for maintaining the designation of the persons, groups and entities to whom the asset freeze applies.
