On 8 January 2008 the work programme for the Council of the European Union (ECOFIN) under the Slovenian presidency was published. In this work programme it was stated that there would be discussions on new legislative proposals to amend the Directive on financial collateral arrangements and the Directive on settlement finality in payment and securities settlement systems. It was also stated that the Slovenian presidency would closely monitor the progress made in relation to clearing and settlement, where reports on the functioning of the Code of Conduct and the removal of the Giovannini barriers are forthcoming. ECOFIN would also track the progress of the Target 2 Securities project.
