The Australian and the UK Governments have signed a bilateral Wine Agreement (WA) and a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in order to ensure the continued flow of trade post-Brexit. (Press Release and Sydney Morning Herald)
- The MRA maintains all relevant aspects of the current EU-Australia MRA and will ensure that UK exporters’ goods are compliant with Australian technical regulations before they depart the UK (and vice versa). This will allow UK and Australian businesses to continue to benefit from mutual recognition, even in a no-deal scenario. Total UK exports in sectors covered by this Agreement are estimated at GBP 2 million.
- The WA replicates an agreement already in place with the EU, where the UK accepts Australian labelling and certification standards as well as its winemaking practices.
