The IRS posted on its website a tip sheet identifying the most common mistakes made in 401(k) plans and how to correct or avoid them. Eleven common mistakes are listed, including failing to update a plan for recent changes to the law and failing to operate a plan according to plan documents. For each mistake, the IRS provides a quick summary of how to identify, correct, and avoid the mistake. The table may be found at http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/pub/irs-tege/401k_mistakes.pdf.
